About the flat
Just 200m from Merivale Mall, on the edge of St Albans. Very close to Papanui Road and the main bus route into town. Big old character home with a sunny back garden. Upstairs: my bedroom, children’s room, shower + toilet. Downstairs: room for rent, lounge, sunroom, dining room, kitchen, laundry + second toilet.
About the room
The room has a double bed, a wardrobe and a functional sink. (Furniture can be removed if not needed.) The west-facing window brings in plenty of afternoon sun..
Preferred flatmate
I’m looking for a reliable, tidy person who genuinely likes dogs and is happy to feed and walk them when I’m away. Someone respectful and considerate, who enjoys a calm, friendly home.
This would suit someone who: Enjoys their own space but is also open to a chat or shared meal now and then. Is dog-friendly (must be okay with two small terriers). Is comfortable with kids being around part of the time (they bring energy and games, and the house is quiet when they’re not here!). Appreciates a home that’s more about books, plants and crafts than parties

I’m a botanist/ecologist, often away for work trips (2–5 nights at a time, with a week or so at home in between). When I’m home it’s a calm, tidy household — I’m not a party person but happy to share the occasional meal or chat. Working part time from home, have kids (aged 7&5) in a 50:50 shared arrangement.

Lakeland terrier. Young puppy, still very playful and friendly. While I’m away I’d need you to feed them and give them a walk — instructions provided, and they’re part of the household. It’s not a job, just part of the flatting arrangement — perfect if you love dogs but don’t want the full responsibility.
